Regional Family day
Finally some decent weather to go out! After a quick oil check and fuel refill I was good to go for the 70 km to the event. The event was in Santpoort next to the remains of a castle that was built in the 13th century. The trip was easy, part highway and part secondary road, good for me to use all my gears. Only some trouble with idling, but that is just for getting attention 🙂
When entering the event we received a carton to be placed under the engine for the oil leaking. As I get older I leak a little bit, you all know it, when we get older this is happening, its human. We received also a filled goody bag as we were within the first 149 cars to arrive. We were placed on a beautiful green field but due to the weather in previous days it was at some locations very wet, but the organization directed us around the wet spots so nobody got stuck.
There were many family members, some clean others dirty, some noisy others silent, but all in a good mood. It was good to see so many family members, we could share our experiences of the past and especially our aging problems. There were even some retired police and fire brigade members. I must say I still look amazing among the crowd, as old school Californian styled beetle I bring a bit of summer :).
There were many parts and goodies for sale and for the mechanics some drinking and eating places. There was also a corner for busses, some like my sister but most were older. The younger ones like my sister are now also welcome to the family reunions. In the older days the reunions were limited for air-cooled family members, so my sister would pass, but nowadays also the water-boxers (engines with opposing cilinders cooled with water, basically to leak even more) and even diesels (the compression ignition engines that give a lot of smoke and noise) are welcome. Those diesels are smelly so good that there were a bit away from us.
The road back was relaxed cruising and I got my idling adjusted. I enjoyed very much again being on the road. The summer is not really great so far, so I spent a lot of time indoor, I hope the weather will be better because I like to get out more. After coming home I shared everything with my sister and hopefully she joins me next time to a family reunion.
