About Me

Hello, I am a VW Beetle, called Low ‘N Slow for my laidback lifestyle and after my main characteristics low for my stance and slow for my speed. I am a 50 shades of yellow, lowered Beetle, with a surf board on the roof.

I first saw the daylight in 1972 in Wolfsburg, Germany. There I only was a number, one of the many, many Beetles. In March 1972 I moved to The Netherlands where I again only got a number and started to learn the drive.

As you may know Beetles are related to the famous ’63 bug called Herbie with the number 53 from the movies. We have our own personality, own will and we have all excellent driving skills. Maybe the skills in the movie were a little exaggerated, but just a little bit. We were with many when I grew up but nowadays it is rare to spot a Beetle. For especially the older people that spot us it is a trip for them down memory lane.

I have been evolved to a Californian look beetle, so called Callook. This style originates from the streets of Los Angeles in the late ’70 and were economically customized (lowered and de-chromed) Beetles. I have been upgraded with the customization parts of old times and modern parts upgrades to join the modern cars in traffic. With the new stuff that looks classic even I am connected to the internet, hence my own blog.

My Home

I live in a small historical town called Enkhuizen, I share a ground floor room with my sister. I made it a real home, kind of what people call a man-cave, then for cars. Most storage space is occupied by me, many of my parts coming from two predecessors. Along the parts there are many tools for our benefit. On the wall I have memories of the few rally’s I have joined.

My mechanic, owner or whatever you call him is y best friend, and I think I am his. His name is Tim, but I call him Timmy and so do public autorities, I know because whenever I get a speeding ticket, it is addressed to Timmy. He is a singel guy with a busy job in the automotive industry, he knows a lot about cars but for technical advice on me he turns to his brother, where my nephew is living.

My Family

I have a much younger brother, also German, good looking, smart and powerful guy but not so much character. He does what is expected from him, except following the traffic rules… He makes many miles, the 7 days 7 countries type of guy, always on tour. He works hard and envied by others.

I also have a younger sister, she is the sexy and demanding type. She originates from Japan, maybe that is why she has only two wheels… Anyway, a girl with character and always in for good fun. Currently she has a Japanese friend staying over, also one with a lot of character that does all she can to extend her stay.

And there is my closest sister, 10 years younger but we have the same family name, both Volkswagen. She is a 1982 campervan, an original Westfalia Joker with high roof. And of course with an aircooled engines as I have, only hers is a 2 liter version.

Next to my close relatives I have a nephew on the other side of the lake. He is a little younger and is noisier but also a Callook. It is great to ride with him, then people look at us and smile.
