Fryslân boppe
Today a roadtrip in the north east direction, Friesland. First we had some main road and highway for 80 kilometers, so for me stretching my pistons a little, so to say. The route was following the coast line at the north and then back through the cities Buitenpost, Dokkum, Leeuwarden and Bolsward. From the last city we took the highway back home, over a dyke between the North sea and the IJsselmeer. The planned route was 338km and would take 5 hours, a good day of time well spent.
The first city we went through is called Harlingen, known for the ferry to two of the islands at the north of The Netherlands. We had to wait for some boats going out and coming into Harlingen harbor. We just parked at the front of the cue, that one can do as motorcycle, so we had a good view on the passing boats. After 15 minutes we could continue the route.
After Harlingen it was country side, only passing small towns with only a church and a bar, and connected by secondary small roads. We had a lunch stop at the sea side that overviews the mudflats on which people walk when the tide is right. It was a stunning view.
Friesland is famous for many waterways, so not as a surprise we had quite some stops where the boats were passing. Not a problem to take some breaks in the beautiful riding weather. Engine off and enjoy the silence of the rural area.
The route through the cities were not so special, Dokkum and Leeuwarden which we passed through were not that impressive as expected, the small old villages we passed earlier were more impressive as expected.
