Aircooled Family Day
Today we have been heading out to the South of The Netherlands for a Aircooled VW even, called Aircooled Wanroij. The day started early for me, after topping up oil we went on our way to the east. After a quick fuel stop for expensive but delicious 98 fuel, we continued to pick up my green/white nephew. From there we drove together and it was basically all highway to the south. Many people were honking and waving at us and making pictures, it seems our kind is not so common on the roads nowadays. A big change for us as over 21 million brothers and sisters have been made! On the road we could not see much aircooled vintage VW’s, only 3 kilometers from the event we drove behind a Thing.
Despite an early start or maybe too much cruising around, the show area was already completed when we arrived. We had to park away from the beach with other aircooled classics, that also were a little late. As usual there we no beetles looking the same although many of the same have been produced in the past years, all have now their own style and own identity. We also could see many of Charlie’s type, campers and other style T3’s, but Charlie could not come, we were short of drivers. Although we have our identity and we can show our strong character, we are not able to drive by ourselves, except for Herbie that is.
Next to Beetles are related families were here, the Buggy’s, Schwimwagens, Karmann Ghia’s, T1, T2 and T3 vans of all years and versions, Things, Fridolins and Type 4’s in all colors.
Furthermore there was a mud playground for Buggy’s to play around, not for me, I will get stuck immediately with my low stance. Also there was a buggy that likes more to swim rather than to drive, good that the event had a beach. Many parts available, but I could not imagine any parts that I needed.
In the evening we returned home and I could rest my old bones. It was a nice day and it was great to be on the road again but also hard work, luckily the maximum speed in The Netherlands is 100kph during daytime, so I could keep up with the traffic. In the coming weeks I will have my tune-up, fresh oil, new filter and valve checking, kind of spa day again. Now some rest and share my adventures with Charlie and my room mates.
