Travel day back to Zanzibar

Travel day back to Zanzibar

Today we had a long day of traveling. First drive to Arusha airport, then a flight to Zanzibar followed by a drive to the north of Zanzibar to the hotel.

Before we went we were saying goodbye to the staff. They song the Jambo song, that one sticked in my head for the test of the day.

We also took the opportunity to take a picture with our guides that treated us very well and thanks to Houssein and Calvin of the Tanzania Specialist we were able to spot tje big 5.

We could ‘enjoy’ the last piece of unpaved road before hitting the paved main road to Arusha. At Arusha airport we had lunch after check in for our flight.

The flight numbers on the board were quite funny, there was no logic. After some delay we departed to Zanzibar.

It was a flight in a small propellor plane, unfortunately it was clouded over land, but when flying over sea it was blue sky. Zanzibar is more crowded compared to Arusha. At Zanzibar we had to go trough the insurance check and customs again.

At Zanzibar we had two taxis that drove us to the Riu Jambo resort in the north of Zanzibar. Remarkable is that most cars seem to come from Japan, noticing the navigation language and front fender mirror.

It was a crazy drive, the taxi driver was passing other cars, it seemed everybody needed to move out of their way. We could see people hanging behind on a dala dala (mini bus) and in the back of small pick-up vehicles (mainly Toyota or Suzuki carry).

In the late afternoon we arrived at the Riu Jambo resort. It is a very big resort with 5 restaurants and 4 swimming pools. The next days we will have no plan, just recovering from the safari which left us impressed.
