Ngorongoro Conservation Area

An early rise again this morning, we had a long day of bad roads ahead of us. Todays target was to spot the rhino, the last one of the big 5.

Today we covered 250 kilometers in 9,5 hours.

Leaving the Sound of Silence we again were treated with a beautiful sunrise. On the way we spotted three lions they created a traffic jam.

Wondering why all the vehicles had 2 spare tires on the back was answered when entering the Gnorognoro crater. Our vehicle had a flat tire, but was changed by the guides with a little help from another colleague. Unfortunately I was not allowed to help.

However our delay with the tire soon became our luck. Again we were caught in a traffic jam of LandCruisers, soon the words came that a rhino was spotted. After waiting a bit the rhino appeared close to us, we could have a clear view on the rhino.

After spotted the rhino we had some lunch close to a lake with many other tourists. Some others spotted another rhino in the far distance at the lunch place.

It was a great view to be in the crater with surrounding walls. After lunch we took a small tour and then we went up the crater rim. On the way up we could find several vehicles that broke down.

Our route continued, signing off at the Gnorognoro Conservation area gate. From the gate we had paved road again, it was very welcome not to be shaken all the time.

Unfortunately the paved road was not till the end. Our next lodge, the Mawe Mawe Manyara lodge had a long unpaved driveway. Again a very warm welcome by the hotel staff. Also here we could nof walk in the dark to our lodges, this time because of elephants and snakes. After choosing dinner we headed to our lodges.

A lodge with again a beautiful view over the Manyara lake from the bed or from the pool.

We arrived not too late at the lodge so we had time for a drink at the swimming pool. First time that I could try a local gin, which was a really nice sweet soft gin. Remind me to buy a bottle before we leave Tanzania.
