What goes up…

What goes up…

Today another great day of touring, although I do not know if this was adventure or just a little crazy for my age.

We went to Madesimo, a well known ski area in Italy. It was a climb from 205 meter to 1550 meter Altitude. Narrow and steep roads with many hairpins. It was busy with cars, motorcycles and cyclists. I needed all my power to go up, sometimes I could not use third gear because of the steepness.

At Madesimo we took a break. I must confess that I had a little stress for the way back. Going uphill requires power and if you cut power you stop but downhill requires planning on the road ahead and adapt my speed. I cannot continuously use my brakes, they are small drum brakes, they would overheat and loose stopping power.

In Chiavenna we took a break again, somebody of us is addicted to ice cream… Chiavenna is a beautiful city, so a good place to catch a breath. The rest of the trip to Domaso was an easy drive. I noticed that many people looked at me and even took pictures, I did not have time to notice that in the downhill part. But I have to admit I look good around Lago di Como.

Tomorrow I will take a day of rest because on Monday we will start our three day drive to go back to The Netherlands. Of course we will stop over at some beautiful places, you will see.
